Wow, thank you for coming to Rosemary to submit your work! We have some important INFO and GUIDELINES to share with you.

We are working very, very hard to make Rosemary Magazine a profitable enterprise so that we can pay our contributors.  It is really important to us that our authors and artists get paid for their work! As of right now we are not able to offer financial compensation. At your request we will be happy to send you a copy of the magazine that includes your printed work.

First pitch us your idea. Use the contact form below to email us a few lines about who you are, and what you would like to write about. No more than a paragraph or two. Consider the following:

We are a long-form story publication.  Your finished work should be between 2,000 and 5,000 words, but don’t let the word count stop you.  If you have more story to tell, please do so.

We do not accept “how-to” articles, or craft projects. We love stories about children owning their own learning, of homeschool families overcoming obstacles, of learning in unexpected ways, or in unexpected moments. We love to hear about the learning that happens when children experience the mundane as well as the extraordinary events in life. Tell us about the homeschooling failures that were really successes. Stories should be told from a parent/guardian point of view, but we will consider publication of truly outstanding student work.

We will try to respond to all submissions, but if you don’t hear from us in a week please know that you didn’t make it in this time but are welcome to pitch us again at the next call for submissions.

If we like your idea we will respond and ask for your full submission. We will let you know if we are able to use your finished work in the magazine, at which point you can send us your mailing address for a copy. We might selectively edit your work before publication.

Submissions for COVER ART should be formatted landscape orientation 17.25″ x 11.25″ in color.

Submissions of art for INNER PAGES should be in black and white, size may vary. We accept .jpg and .png. Send us your largest file size. Photos do not do well, we are looking mostly for illustrations, drawings, especially wood cut/lino cut. Because there are many black and white images in each issue and only one cover per issue, we have a much greater need for black and white art for the inner pages than we do cover art.

We can not accept student art at this time.

We may print your submitted work in any and all forms (print/online) with appropriate credit to you. You also may publish your work elsewhere.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions about the submission guidelines.
